BeaveRun 9/4/2010 - 9/5/2010

11 for 11!

Peak Honda Racing went 11 for 11 at BeaveRun last weekend. 11 starts with 11 podiums and the victory in each race entered. Oliver Gooden owned Saturday with the lead in almost every lap of the Solo 20 including the one that counts. Nick finished just a few seconds back in 3rdoverall. The PHR boys were 1-2 for the first half of the race before some the rain started to fall. It ended up not being enough to hinder grip, but just enough to make Oliver and Nick think twice about the championship points up for grabs on Sunday.

Sunday was a clean sweep for the 53 of Nick Lefurgey with a show of dominance all day leading 44 of the 48 race laps on the day. The only exception was when the 91 of Oliver Gooden took the hole shot in the last race of the day and stayed in front for the first several laps. Nobody could match the pace of the PHR riders on Sunday as they both joined a short list of Novice racers to ever breach the 1-minute mark at BeaveRun.

The day was not without some challenges though. Most of their races were as the second wave behind the Expert class. The 91 and 53 spent most laps working through other riders not in their race. In the Superbike classes Nick quickly distanced himself from the competition and won all 3 races by considerable margin. The Superstock classes would not be so easy. Nick and Oliver immediately pushed each other into the 0:59’s in A Superstock. Nick made quick work of several Expert riders on the track and started to pull a gap. A desperate move to keep the 53 in site put Oliver in contact with another rider and sent them both into the grass. Luckily both riders kept the bikes upright and completed the race. Oliver continued to take 2ndin the race. You can see the whole race from the on-board footage taken on the 91 machine Oliver Gooden On-board The remaining races were less eventful, but much closer finishes. The C Superstock race saw the PHR boys 1-2 again from flag to flag with Nick taking the victory by just 0.07 seconds at the line! Last race of the day was B Superstock and again PHR led into T1. Only this time the 91 machine was upfront. Nick was caught behind another competitor, but within 4 turns passed up to second position. Several laps later the 91 caught another Expert rider in an inopportune spot and allowed the 53 a chance for the lead. Nick took it and made quick work of the other rider. Oliver follow suit and proceeded to put down the fastest Novice lap time of the day and 2nd fastest lap time ever by a novice at BeaveRun, a 0:59.7. However, this is not a single lap time trial and Nick was able to hold onto the lead and his 6th victory for the day!

After this event all other competitors are mathematically eliminated from the championship standings. That’s 7 class championships out of 7 classes entered on the 2010 WERA North Central season, with Nick Lefurgey taking 5 of 6 and Oliver Gooden picking up the remaining 2. Congratulations to a successful season!

We are, however, looking for a sponsor to aid us in attending the Grand National Final held at Road Atlanta in October. If you or somebody you know could benefit from advertizing on the National stage of Motorcycle Racing we would welcome the opportunity to discuss promoting their business.

Of course we wouldn’t have made it this far without our existing sponsors. We can’t thank enough our friends at Peak Powersports, Pirelli Tires/ Uber Racing, C&S Powdercoating, Scorpion Helmets, Honda Pro Oils & Chemicals, Chicken Hawk Racing, Pit Bull, Vortex, Hotbodies, and Held Gloves.

We are working on some fun statistics from the season so stop back by.
